Prague Chamber Opera
The Prague Chamber Opera continues in the best opera traditions of the Czech Republic. The aim of this new ensemble, established in the year 1995, is to follow the chamber opera tradition, existing in Prague from 1984 to 1990.
The Czech arts agency in Prague B-Arts has decided in 1995 to give this ensemble the necessary support in order to satisfy the growing demand for the performances of chamber operas. The agency has succeeded to engage good singers, musicians and especially conductors who have great experience with the opera repertory and therefore ensured a high artistic quality of the ensemble.
The ensemble has decided to introduce the most beautiful Mozart's opera - "The Magic Flute" - and has studied this famous work under the guidance of the German conductor Klaus Linkel. According to the modem trends the opera has been studied in the original German version and the audience can feel the great artistic engagement of the German conductor.
The performances are conducted by the well-known Czech conductors Rudolf Krecmer and Jan Chalupecky (who is a conductor of the National Theatre Prague). The third great personality of the Prague Chamber Opera is a young Czech artistic director Jan Stych, who contributed the right invention to the ensemble.
The last but not least artistic personality, who has contributed to the successful introduction of this opera by the Prague Chamber Opera is Petr Kolinsky, the Professor at the Prague Academy of Arts, who is the author of scene. The scene and properties were made on a high professional level in the artistic workshops of the National Theatre Prague.
In year 1996 the Prague Chamber Opera has presented Mozart's "Magic Flute" during their German tour. The performance was very successful - especially in Essen, Aachen, Bremen, Hannover, Niirnberg, Wurzburg etc.
For the coming season the Opera ensemble is preparing another two famous operas : "Cosi fan tutte" by Mozart and G. Donizetti's "L'elisir d'amore".
The Prague Chamber Opera is basically orientated on the two important artistic periods : the Baroque and Classicism, i.e. the periods when most of the chamber operas has been composed. The ensemble is planning to introduce the works of the most important composers of these artistic periods - Georg Friedrich Handel and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. But there will be also space for other composers of the chamber opera : Claudio Monteverdi, Giovanni Paisiello, Frantisek Xaver Brixi, Josef Myslivecek.
